Nice one! I was thinking of putting in an install myself! Do you have any guides on how to do it? Or can anyone recommend any books! As I wouldn't know where to start lol I had a quote from http://energyinstalls.co.uk/ but they were pretty expensive!

Have a look at the Permanent Publications website. www.green-shopping.co.uk. There are various publications available on there, covering everything from DIY 12V systems through to what to consider when choosing a professionally installed grid-connected system.

You could also try browsing the Navitron forum. (www.navitron.org.uk). I bought my grid-tied inverter from them, although the panels came from a supplier on Ebay.

The precise system you go for would depend on what you are trying to achieve. This could be one or a combination of:
- Providing back-up power to cope with temporary or long-term grid failure
- Providing power when it would otherwise be difficult or expensive to do so (e.g. remote location not connected to grid)
- Taking advantage of government incentives (feed-in tariffs) and production of "free" electricity to get a decent return on some money invested
- Insulating yourself from future energy price inflation
