Why is this board allowing the troll John Hemming to remain?

As above.

I've actually had enough and am about to bugger off if nothing is done about this pathetic little turd of a human being.

Now, I realise that, for some, my going may or may not be a benefit. In which case, feel free to state this. I wont take offence and will take a hint. On the other hand, if you feel as I do about this disgusting little man, then now is the time to say it.

Same reason J2M is still posting. He hasn't broken any of the rules of the forum. The forum rules do not include a prohibition on holding opinions that others find offensive, or that are based on fantasies, or even people who are being intentionally misleading (apart from maybe about the reality of peak oil and the limits to growth).

And anyway...you know you can't stay away from this place, regardless of the fact that some other people here have disagreeable views. It is the strangest forum I post on.

I do think being abusive should be limited. That discourages some people. It obviously does not discourage me. I find it sad that Little John is so uninterested in getting to the truth that he normally resorts to abuse.

Such is life, however.

Hahahahahahahahahaha!

A politician pretending to speak 'truth'. What were the odds?

It is the only forum I post on but is certainly very strange.

BTW, JH is a minor irritation LJ. The perfect demonstration of a politician at work.

The bigot, on the other hand, is a problem AND I'D STILL LIKE TO KNOW WHY HE HASN'T BEEN BANNED.

Freedom of speech is important. It allows issues to be debated to enable people to work towards the truth. It is one of the most, if not the most, important freedoms.

Those who use personal abuse in an attempt to silence others are normally constrained from doing so. That should be part of any policy of moderation. However, if you start banning people on the basis of their views you move away from truth.

He hasn't been banned because we don't have a rule that prohibits bigotry. Not that I am sure "bigot" is the correct word for him. "Bigot" means "intolerant towards people who hold opinions different to your own". By that definition, J2M is not particularly more bigoted then many other people who post on the forum. Why not just call him a "racist" or "xenophobe", since that is an accurate description of him (and you won't be in trouble for personal abuse because he is apparently proud of both descriptions)?

Now that's interesting. I find many of J2M's views seriously objectionable. But, I can live with his posts, however, misguided and f***ed-up they may be, because he posts honestly and is not disingenuous. I find John Hemming's views equally objectionable (for related but slightly different reasons), if not more so, because someone like him is highly educated and should know better. In fact, does know better.

However, what makes this individual beyond the pale is his utter contempt for the truth and recourse to lies, dissembling and any other dishonest debating tactic. For what end, is unclear. Though I suspect, perhaps, he is just a repellent little troll with a hideously bloated self image and it's no more complicated than that.

I recycled my parliamentary income into better services for my constituents so I am not destitute. Thanks for being thoughtful, however.

You could pay me some money for my recordings on youtube if you are worried.

Little John's underlying problem is that his model of reality is a fantasy. He does not like that I point this out with good evidence. He would be best to learn.

And yours is that you're just not a very nice person, John.

Your comments in that Assange thread are every bit as repellant as anything J2M posts. Worse, in fact. Julian Assange is one of the bravest people on this planet - he's risked his life and freedom in order to expose some of the most serious war crimes of the 20th century, committed by the most powerful and corrupt nation Earth, which thinks it can get away with dictating the rules to everybody else, but do whatever it wants itself. That country has responded by demonstrating it can pervert the normal course of justice to the extent that Assange has ended up in effective house arrest, without having ever been charged with a crime, and with no access to justice.

And you think this is an appropriate topic to make jokes about.

Make jokes on a forum where everybody else who has offered an opinion takes the Assange case very seriously indeed, and backs him.

And you do so just as the UN is poised to make a ruling that Assange's human rights have been abused.

You're scum, John Hemming. I had no idea there were people as openly repulsive as you in the Liberal Democrat party. No idea.

I did not make a joke. I said that the authorities in Sweden were probably having a laugh about it him deciding to go into the Ecuadorian embassy.

Try understanding what is actually being said rather than resort to abuse.

To give an example of how authorities behave. I am currently dealing with the case of two mothers from England who are in France because their babies are scheduled to be forcibly adopted if they remain in England. One gave birth on Tuesday the other on Wednesday. They are both still in hospital. The French police came to their house yesterday because someone alleged that they were surrogate mothers. This is something probably done by the authorities in England. Proving that will be difficult, but they were probably having a laugh.
