Though I believe in freedom of speech there are enough people that want to see the ability to ignore or ban users and since I'm fairly libertarian, if that is what we as a group want I think it should be available.

I've thought about this a lot and can't seem to decide either way. Sometimes I'd like to try out an ignore function, other times I reckon it'll just lead to confusion, but mostly I'm coming round to the idea that I should just ignore what I want and who I want, when I want, without having to resort to a forum function to do it for me.

And anyway, I'm so often in two minds about so many things that, if an ignore function were to be made available, the first person I'd choose to ignore would probably be myself! :?

We already have an 'ignore' option - it's called "not reading a post". Is it so difficult to skip past any posts from people who you can't abide?
