With most of the ballots counted it is clear that the labour party are the largest party, and may gain an overall majority, though this is not certain.

It looks as though the new administration will take climate change and the environment in general a bit more seriously than the last lot. Only a bit better though, as the labour party have declined to phase out coal burning, or to oppose the opening of new coal mines.

Labour made a decision to draw back their climate promises they made in 2019 to get elected. If they were not weak on border security, spending and national defence they might be a good party. They have had many ideas in the past such as the compulsory superannuation scheme, workers compensation, a national disability insurance scheme and a national broadband that Liberals would have never done.

I hope they make better progress against climate change and for renewable energy than the Liberals who were totally clueless. They should be mindful however that China installs more power plants every year than Australia's total emissions and not close coal power plants to early when the replacements for them have not been built. I would even like to see a national home insulation scheme brought back, preferably managed by a minister with a better anger management issues than a former pop singer. I would like to see more biomass burning power stations to take advantage of the enormous quantities of biomass that burn naturally every year in bushfires. A lot of scope for biochar in agriculture. Many possibilities for pumped hydro. Even synthesising diesel from coal or biomass feedstocks instead of spending billions importing it or move some diesel fuelled machinery to hydrogen.

Supposedly the richer electors were bothered about climate change and the poorer electors were worried about housing/rental affordability and cost of living. Simple solution would be to install wind turbines offshore from rich (former Liberal) independent voting electorates in coastal Sydney. Make more land available for building houses and jobs available outside of Sydney for the poorer electors.
