This is a book about the people concerned by the prospect of peak oil.
The VERY annoying slant is that 'peak oilers' are a virtual movement who are true believers in the peak oil theory, and its more general cousin, 'peak everything' , or as we know it, the limits to growth (A term the author assiduously avoids).
I think this is basically a PHd thesis in sociology, and so has to invent the social aspects (and is of course viewed from the mainstream US mindset) that don't actually exist.
If you read the content it is a reasonable description of the people who discuss peak oil on line, and the author only makes a few glaring technical mistakes.
In fact he is involved in low scale energy and environmental groups in the US.
