Question Time 17/3/11
Did anyone else notice/does anyone know why Baroness Warsi was censored during her answer to the question on Libya?
Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will. Frederick Douglass
Bleeped out on iPlayer?
yep- She's answering a question about Libya she says something about not tolerating dictators like this killing.... then it cuts to a blank screen with the number five on it, the sound cuts too, then after about 12 seconds it cuts back to Kelving Mackenzie who is half way through an answer- very strange.

What could it be? A Superinjunction??

I can understand that the Government would feel jumpy when one of its own members goes on national television saying we won't tolerate murderous dictators, when the fact that we are doing precisely that, even as she speaks, in Bahrain and Yemen, could be seen by anyone switching channels.
Could be any number of other things of course. And we can be sure the official explanation will be a technical hitch...

Fascinating, well done for spotting that!nexus wrote:Bleeped out on iPlayer?

I suppose it could be a techie hitch.
Or perhaps the Baroness forget to refer to the “cuts” as “savings” .
Question Time isn’t live is it? Whatever was said was probably never broadcast. The BBC is obsessively cautious at the best of times, I suppose it’s not surprising they might snip something during a sensitive period like this.
The glitch was present in the 'live' broadcast of the recorded programme as well.
The fact that it remains in the iPlayer version can mean:
- the iPlayer version is a direct copy of the broadcast version (and BBC techies were too lazy to edit it?)
- the glitch occurred during the recording (and BBC techies were too lazy to edit it?)
- it is censorship (and very poorly executed at that - perhaps trying to hide it behind a 'technical glitch')
- or it is 'something else'

TBH I thought pretty much everything she said was reasonable. Kelvin MacKenzie, on the other hand......was utterly hilarious!biffvernon wrote:If only I didn't believe in free speech I would happy if Baroness Warsi had a permanent injunction on everything the says.
Generally a good programme in this instance, with a lot of worthy comment from Simon Hughes.
