Hi guys been browsing this site about 12 months now after finding you on an internet search after reading Alex Scarrow's Book Last Light which scared the hell out me, and sent me out looking for info. Have not joined before as i don't really have a lot to say but i like reading through what you guys find out but now i have just read Alex's new book Afterlight and i have to tell you it's fab, again very scary but totally brill, read it in two sittings finally finished it at 3am this morning. I know Alex sometimes pops onto this site and i wanted to tell him how brill his books and writing style is and it is so good to read something thrilling and exciting and doomerish that does not involve "Zombies"!!!.

Thank you

Welcome, I have been looking forward to this for a while, but could not find it.
AFAIK the sequel to "Last Light" was due to be titled "Twilight"
which is probably why I could not find it.

Hi Doris, glad you've joined us. Don't worry about not having much to say, I don't either !
I read 'Last Light' and really enjoyed it, I just wish I could censor the language

Hi Doris,

very kind words from you. thank you. It really is encouraging that readers, having finished the books, are going on the net to do they're own research. That's exactly what I'd hoped for. So thanks again for that.

Spread the word though. Talk about PO to your friends, and please lend out your copies of Last Light/AfterLight.

A pleasure to hear from you....btw I also have my own forum as well. I shan't post the link here as I consider that bad manners to pimp with a link on someone else's forum. But if you google my name, you should find my web pages pretty easily.

all the best

Alex Scarrow

You mean http://www.scarrow.co.uk/ ?

Loved the torygraph quote for Last Light:
This is the perfect book to give to somebody who opposes your plans to build a wind farm

Haggis/Caspian

I'm surrounded by 'bad' language all the time thanks very much, I just want to be able to read a good tale without it, the reality of what's coming is scary enough in my mind so maybe I just want my reading doom to be a little bit sanitised, I know it's not real life but so what, and I bet I'm not the only one here that feels the same way.
And that's my opinion and I'm free to express it OK
:> walks away grumbling<:

Alex= great story, thanks.

I don't think anyone is that bothered about swear words in a book these days apart from the point that I made - by the twenty-fifth exclamation of "Shit!" it begins to get boring.

The Irish are such inveterate swearers that I find it refreshing (and very noticeable) to talk to someone who doesn't.

I can imagine the title "twilight" was ditched because it's kinda common by now, no? Wot with The Twilight Trilogy(?) and all.

Oooh did someone in the Torygraph really write that?? Marvellous!

Afterlight on DODGY TAX AVOIDERS

I notice DODGY TAX AVOIDERS has three paperback editions of Afterlight listed.

One edition is available now and costs £8.39. It is listed as Afterlight: n/a (Paperback).

www.DODGY TAX AVOIDERS.co.uk/Afterlight-n-Alex-Scar ... 1409108163

What does the n/a mean in this context? Presumably it isn't 'not available' as it is available!

The other paperback edition listed is cheaper (£5.49) - but it says it is not released until 4 Nov 10.

www.DODGY TAX AVOIDERS.co.uk/Afterlight-Alex-Scarrow/dp/1409118029

There is yet another paperback version - cheaper still at £5.24 - but not released until 3 Feb 11.

www.DODGY TAX AVOIDERS.co.uk/Afterlight-Alex-Scarrow/dp/1409103064

Can anyone enlighten me as to why there are 3 different paperback editions? Is there anything different about them other than the cost?

Many thanks

Pennsif

The 1954 novel, I Am Legend might appeal to those who liked Last Light.

Add The Death of Grass to the 'good old doomer' list.

Just got hold of Afterlight. I re-read Last Light first, as it was a while ago I read it, and am now part way through the sequel...

I really shouldn't read this stuff, it makes me want to put together a "run for the hills" plan B, instead of getting on with making plan A more sustainable...
