Saw it the other day. Liked it. Not as grim as 'Threads' or the book according to someone who'd read the book. In fact he said the film had a Hollywood ending (compared to the book at least).
As a film it's both tense and poignant. The post apocalyptic scenery is great. No sun ever, I guess it's a nuclear winter.
It's not political and portrays children and their innocence as totally beautiful.
The Road, new film out later this year.

I thought it was a nuclear winter too, but there didn't appear to be any radiation.Prono 007 wrote: As a film it's both tense and poignant. The post apocalyptic scenery is great. No sun ever, I guess it's a nuclear winter.
I think it's extreme global warming which led to the collapse of the north atlantic current and then caused fluctuating weather which messed up agriculture.
But it's academic. The film WAS great, though it wasn't what I expected.

erm, the end of the book is the same as the film, pretty much. Don't want to give too much away.Prono 007 wrote:Saw it the other day. Liked it. The lack of sun and everything dead and hopeless is symbolic, the cause is irrelevant. It is about a particular relationship in a time of great upheaval. That is of course in my humble opinion.

Just for the record, after discussing the film with my brother, it turns out I am wrong about this. It does indeed have a more holywood ending.extractorfan wrote:erm, the end of the book is the same as the film, pretty much. Don't want to give too much away.Prono 007 wrote:Saw it the other day.
