Might check this out as it is set on Tyneside which I am very familiar with.
Always good to get a recommendation for good scifi as so much, usually with impressive covers and gushing write ups , is total rubbish
and it would be no cultural loss if about 80% of all published scifi were pulped.
In particular fevered near future dystopian rants are rather too well represented in the current published offerings.
