If obsessing about the pandemic is no longer hitting your spot
may I suggest setting aside a hundred minutes to savour "Planet of the Humans" on https://youtu.be/Zk11vI-7czE.

I had sort of vaguely thought and guessed a lot of this but this is really in your face. Richard Hienberg saying he was scared spoke volumes.

Depends on your opinion of Richard "Pol Pot" Heinberg I suppose.

It's a good core message/argument, but terrible film. Full of straw men, pointless comments from members of the public, cherry picking, out of date and non sequiturs. It a real missed opportunity.

I disagree with your opinions and think a paragon of virtue documentary would be pretty boring and unwatchable. Yes it is flawed but these flaws are part of it's strength in telling a story rather than writing a thesis. What you call "pointless" comments from members of the public illustrate just how much misinformation and deliberately encouraged misunderstanding there is out there. I get the feeling you are a bit of a perfectionist for whom nothing can ever be good enough!

I was going to start a post on this but someone beat me to it.

Seems a bit of a rant from someone who is not Michael Moore and not nearly as funny as him. I am not even sure what role Moore had in this documentary. They did not like Biomass power and I am tempted to agree with them. Trees are poor solar energy converters - about half a percent efficiency.

Not much mention on grid storage or use of hydro to offset fluctuations in wind and solar power. No mention at all of pumped hydro which is a very useful form of grid scale storage. A bit outdated view of storage technology.

A few interesting revelations. If they are telling the truth I never knew who owned Treehugger or that those naughty naughty Koch brothers profited from the construction of the Ivanpah solar power station.

I liked the interviews with Heinberg. He came across as a fallable human being. The film producer obviously did not like the Sierra Club.

All in all a good use of 100 minutes of my time but not for the laughs.

From my point of view aiming to live somewhere around an Amish level is better than trying to stay at our current level, finding that we can't and then ending up in the Stone/Iron Age again. I doubt that we will carry on as we are for very much longer but then I'm a doomer. Not an absolutist doomer, just a doomer.
