Should be fine, unless the failure was permanent or very long term.Kentucky Fried Panda wrote:I do wonder what would be the effect on our Nuclear power facilities here in the UK in the event of a total grid failure?
Data anyone?
All UK nuclear power plants have multiple backup diesel generators in order to run the cooling systems if grid power is not available.
Fuel is said to be stored for a months operation.
When a reactor is shut down by fully inserting the control rods, heat is still produced though at a rapidly declining rate.
The need for emergency core cooling is not therefore constant but declines in time.
Even Fukushima could have brought safely to a "cold shutdown" state had not the emergency generators been damaged by flooding.
"Installers and owners of emergency diesels must assume that they will have to run for a week or more"
Hi everyone, I'm new on this forum!
Anyway I've watched all the episodes of this tv series until now and, even if I find it very unrealistic and exaggerated, it made me think about how much we rely on electricity.
I've become interested in sustainability and all this kind of things just in the last times and I think this tv series can made unaware people, that doesn't bother to inquire about what's going on in the world, think how much electricity is important to us and that we have to do something to improve the situation where we are.
