Post Super Flu epidemic type virus thingie leaves world civilization trashed.

Set in the 1950s and so some of the ideas a bit dated but nevertheless a very good read of one man's life during the descent to the olduvai gorge.

Good choice. This was a favourite of mine when I was a nipper. Though it's post-apocalyptic literature I always think of it as an optimistc read. The world is wiped clean of a lot of its problems and those that are left have to start again; a bit like the US turning the clock back to 1700.

I remember that dimes (there is an almost unlimited quantity) get turned into arrow heads!

Earth Abides is one of my favourites. I can't believe that no-one's made this into a film yet. Maybe I'll option it, and make the film myself ;-)

I love the simple philosophy behind the biblical quote the book's title is taken from: "Men go and come, but Earth abides".
