Electric bikes must surely have a future? Both new bikes and mod kits to get your rusty Raleigh motorised? Even more promising as the car volumes and speeds eventually reduce.

Does anyone have one?

Always fancied a recumbent bike - but for the traffic...

An example website, not any kind of endorsement mind...

I think we'd only get one if one of had a commute to work that really wasn't possible without electric assistance, so getting an electric bike allowed us not to use a car. For shorter distances, I think pedal power is best - there's other things to use the electricity for.

I used to have a recumbent trike. No problem in traffic - you're too wide, so cars don't squeeze past you, they have to go over on the other side of the road. There's not much of a visibility problem either, cos you look so odd! And you can always fit a flag too. Added to that, you have two front brakes (so can stop quickly), huge load-carrying capacity at the back, a good all-round view and you're sat in a comfy seat!

I got rid of mine as I wasn't using it enough - the trikes are good for long distances, but for little trips down to the shops, they are too large and awkward.
