The Telegraph - 26/08/10
More than two-thirds of UK motorists would choose not to buy an electric car, despite government incentives to do so.
The biggest concern facing potential buyers is the limited range of electric cars - typically around 100 miles. But for a quarter of those surveyed the main barrier to purchase is cost.

For what most people do day-to-day 100 miles is enough for 2-3 days!
If you need to go further on occasion you could always hire an internal combustion driven car.

Cars are not just transport they’re bling. Just look at all the motorists who think its essential, to use a fully off road capable 4WD for the school run.

I've just used my fully off road capable vehicle to go to a meeting a mile and a half away.
Fortunately it's got two wheels, and peddles . The mudguard on my road bike is broken and the reflector missing, and I haven't sorted out lights for it!

It points up the difference between 'them' and 'us', if I may be so bold.
I would get an electric car if I could. A bit difficult at the moment in Ireland, there's only the Reva which is grossly over-priced.
So, we make do with a 50+mpg ten-year-old Polo, which is currently clocking up around thirty miles a week! It's not worth thinking about spending money.
At that, even an electric car is overkill but I would hire a petrol car for that once-every-five-years longish trip.
People really need to realise that they can't have it all.
