The UK government has announced an additional £15 million of funding to help secure investment in low carbon buses, with the aim of getting more than 150 new green buses joining fleets throughout England.
And, the £3.4 million Scottish version of the Green Bus Fund has also opened for bus operators and local authorities to bid for funding towards 90% of the difference between the cost of a Low Carbon Electric Bus (LCEB) and the cost of its standard diesel equivalent.
The funding from the Department for Transport (DfT), announced yesterday (July 5) is intended to put LCEB's within the reach of as many operators and local authorities as possible.
Announcing the scheme in England, transport minister Norman Baker said: "We want to support new transport technologies to help make our transport system greener and more sustainable.
