A six month trial of electric vehicles in the north east of England has found that a majority of drivers would be willing to switch.
Cenex, the UK’s Centre of Excellence for low carbon and fuel cell technologies, and Regional Development Agency One North East rolled out four electric two-seater Smart ForTwo cars in ten vehicle fleets and at three public events, attracting over 250 drivers.
After test driving the Smart ForTwo, 72% of participants said they would use an electric vehicle as their regular car and 82% said they would consider owning one – up from 47% before the trial.
The trial indicates that fleets are a particularly attractive early market for electric vehicles, with 88% of managers feeling positive about incorporating advanced vehicles into their fleets.
