Government backs Ford green engine plan

The re-emergence of the British motor industry shifted up a gear today after the Government said that it would financially back a £1.5 billion investment by Ford in producing cleaner engines in the UK.
The American motor company said that it was injecting the money into four sites in the UK to develop low-carbon vehicles.
The Government, which wants the UK to be a global hub of green motoring development, said that it would back the programme with £360 million of loan guarantees.
The news follows government grants to Nissan to build electric cars in the UK and a £270 million loan guarantee for Vauxhall to invest in greener cars at its Ellesmere Port factory.
