Electric cars 'are as dirty as diesel cars'

Title rewrite: Cars powered by electricity generated by burning CO2-emitting fossil fuels 'are as dirty as diesel cars'. Hmm... Doesn't have the same snappy impact, does it.

The experts found, for example, that the electric Smart Fortwo, expected to cost around 21,000 pounds, creates an 'equivalent' of 84 gm of CO2 per km driven, whereas the 9,540-pounds diesel Smart Fortwo emits 103 gm
But they say that electric is as dirty as diesel :?

Sorry. I don't usually do things like that, but it was a way of putting off doing the washing up .

Many a true word said in jest ... just factor in all the mining for your rare earth elements, battery and motor winding materials and refining... looking about even.

Of course, once we get fusion up and running, its a game changer.

Lots of other positives on the horizon though... if only renewables could be seriously stepped up without so much energy being needed to build the projects in the first place :/
