The event is open to road-legal; concept, development, pre-production and production passenger motor cars, light commercial vehicles (3.5 tonne) and motorcycles that feature new/alternative energy in the following three categories: Electric (EV); Hybrid (HEV) and Internal Combustion Engine up to 110g/km CO₂ emission fuelled by any legal means (ICE).
The event will be staged, promoted and judged in the above three categories. Within each category entries will measured for their energy used during the event route from Madeira Drive, Brighton to Pall Mall, London. This will be judged in four modes as detailed in the Entry Regulations. The challenge will be to complete the event with the least energy impact in the time allocated. With 3 categories and 4 modes there will be 12 winners plus one overall winner per vehicle type.
Preview in the Telegraph:
The future of motoring is taking a mass driving test. No fewer than 60 eco-friendly vehicles at the cutting edge of low-energy technology will take to the roads next Saturday for the first-ever RAC Brighton to London Future Car Challenge.
The number and variety of vehicles taking part on November 6, including entries from leading manufacturers as well as pioneering designers, has far exceeded expectations.
It can claim to be perhaps the largest event of its kind and is a very public showcase for low-energy-impact vehicles. Open to the latest electric, hybrid and low-emission passenger cars and light commercial vehicles, awards will be presented for vehicles judged to have made the least energy impact in their category during the 60-mile Brighton to London run.
This would have gone by only about 10 miles away - shame I didn't know about it until it was too late. Will be making a date in the calendar for next year!
I think it was BBC Breakfast on Saturday that I was watching and Quentin Wilson was on there bigging up electric cars. I don't know how well respected he is as a motoring expert but he seriously seemed to love the on he had.
I work for an online news company called Energy Live News and we were filming at the RAC Future Car Challenge 2010 last saturday but we've had problems with out material and we desperately need some footage or photos of the VW caddy Van that took place in the event.
Please if anyone has any video footage or photos of the van can they please let me know ASAP. It will be much appreciated and I'm sure we can come to an agreement of usage of the material.
