Hello Eternal Sunshine.....
....and I have the distinct impression that these gatherings are, to a large extent, your private drinking club.....
.....but that works very welll - so thanks!
Jane said something like "Everyone come and camp out and have fun August BH in my garden! It's a council house - but don't let that put you off, because it's a great place, there's a big garden, and I got a £200k property for a knockdown price as a result of Thatcher's free-market-fundamentalist right-to-buy policy!"
(BTW I made the last bit up)
Regards Chris

Haha, I think you may be right, they seem to have evolved that way. Feel free to bring along some more Manchestery people in future!Cr3osoteChris wrote: ....and I have the distinct impression that these gatherings are, to a large extent, your private drinking club.....
As for Jane's council house, it was already privatised when she got it, but fair point. I also live in a privatised council house but have the pleasure of renting it off a private landlord. Jane's house is nice, she's right, and it's in a village, not the middle of an estate. (I wouldn't call her garden big tho'...)
In fact I think all the council houses in our village are private now. Good old Thatcher, I'm sure she regretted her policy later when she saw the length of social housing lists. Or maybe she didn't.

One of the guys who owns one of the woodlands next to mine lives in Preston. Can I invite him and his girlfriend? He is a real character!
