Thanks very much for warmly welcoming this interloper from the dark side (a.k.a. TheOilDrum.com). It was great to meet you all, and I enjoyed the evening very much.
Special thanks to:
- Haggis for lending me the Ruppert book - surprisingly this made it safely back to my flat despite my advanced state of inebriation. It's such a weighty volume that I considered selling it and investing the proceeds in oil futures contracts, but on reflection, I've decided to try reading it.
But seriously, If you feel that - in the cold light of day - your loan was rather rash, just call <edited> / mail chrisunderscorehughesathotmaildotcom and I'll post it back to you. Otherwise expect to wait a few weeks for me to get through it before I return it to you. It certainly is the sort of material that I'm interested in reading.
- Ally for his inspirational speech on the Metrolink back into Manchester. Please repeat it sometime when I'm sober.
Best wishes to all
Chris

meet
It was most enjoyable!
Nobody seems to have mentioned Andy's fine CD's that he gifted to us all, not something I'd normally buy but worth a listen!
Well done to Candy for not caring about the time of the last train
And Haggis for his security work!
Maybe we should meet at a hotel next time and call ourselves a conference - actually that's not a bad idea, if it could be combined with a visit to somewhere that fits in with the reason we meet anyway

Excellent, can we get corporate sponsorship, like from a brewery or somesuch?wedg1e wrote:Maybe we should meet at a hotel next time and call ourselves a conference - actually that's not a bad idea, if it could be combined with a visit to somewhere that fits in with the reason we meet anyway
I love the idea of booking a hotel for a conference . . . we won't have to stop drinking at midnight then!
We could do it 'properly' with power point presentations and stuff. Just so the hotel staff don't think we're a bunch of louts!
But seriously - it would mean that people don't have to worry about missing the last tram back or whatever. We might even be able to persuade some of our Southern colleagues to join us for a peak oil knees-up, Northern style!!
Let's throw down the gauntlet . . . hehe. We might even get room price discounts for bulk booking!
Peak Speak North . . . what a great idea. I might get some prices from some hotels. Any suggestions for a venue next time?!
Am I being a bit keen?
The other idea was to find an organic farm who will let us camp for a weekend in exchange for some work on the farm, and take our own booze and a little solar sound system I'm building.

I'm intrigued now as I was there on the tram but can't remember his speach.CreosoteChris wrote: - Ally for his inspirational speech on the Metrolink back into Manchester. Please repeat it sometime when I'm sober.
Chris
P.S. Chris - You should delete your mobile number from your post & PM it to Haggis instead!
Andy - I liked the camping idea but would be up for a peak oil hotel conference if it was the winter months.

Same here - I just remember being impressed how he briefly convinced me to stop being a doomer, and that I should actually start taking a more positive outlook.I'm intrigued now as I was there on the tram but can't remember his speech
I should have whipped out my mobile, and recorded a little video we could all watch on YouTube!
next time, maybe.....
