Ed Miliband orders immediate ban on new drilling in the North Sea, overruling his own officials — who advised following a proper process — and almost certain triggering a wave of legal action.
Miliband told regulators not to approve a new round of drilling that was slated for confirmation in the coming weeks.
Companies have spent millions of pounds on preparing their bids and are likely to take legal action as a result.

Misleading Telegraph headline - there'll still be North Sea drilling for many years to come. All that Labour are saying is no now exploration licences. Existing blocks can continue to be drilled.
