This would be the same Wellcome Trust that is unquestioningly on the side of genetics based "solutions" and significantly funds dodgy organisation such as the SMC.

Yes, that benign-sounding front. That alone should ring alarm bells. 'Charity', the conveniently surname 'Wellcome', 'Trust', corporate speak through and through.
We are independent of both political and commercial interests.
Which of course means the exact opposite.

Hmmm... I'm not sure about the Welcome Trust. My mum used to work for them many years ago and they were not one of the completely evil organisations. Best to watch carefully.

'The PRWatch website provides some interesting details about the SMC. It was conceived in 2002 and enjoys close links with the British government. It is now based at the Wellcome Trust, one of the world’s largest non-profit foundations. The Trust was founded on the fortune of American-born pharmaceutical magnate Sir Henry Wellcome, whose drug company has since evolved to become GlaxoSmithKline. The Wellcome Trust gives the SMC more than the five percent of annual income at which other institutional funding is capped'

Surely this is good news, given the situation faced. I expected them to be sold to a wealthy overseas private interest with the tenant farmers squeezed to maximise profits at expense of sustainability. This seems like a better alternative.

A Wellcome bit of bullshit
The Wellcome Trust believes that engagement with the small number of energy companies in which we invest gives us the best opportunity to contribute to change
Insert [climate] as the penultimate word.
