Energy company staff working at climate ministry

Employees from firms including British Gas and npower being paid to work at Department of Energy, documents reveal.

Almost two dozen employees from companies including the energy giants British Gas and npower are working at the Department of Energy and, in most cases, are being paid by the government to do so, documents released under freedom of information rules reveal.

Oil companies such as Shell and ConocoPhillips also have staff inside the department, and civil servants have travelled in the opposite direction to work for the companies.

“Surely by now there can be few here who still believe the purpose of government is to protect us from the destructive activities of corporations.

At last most of us must understand that the opposite is true: that the primary purpose of government is to protect those who run the economy from the outrage of injured citizens.”

...and in regard to the last point in that quote:

Revealed: how the FBI coordinated the crackdown on Occupy

New documents prove what was once dismissed as paranoid fantasy: totally integrated corporate-state repression of dissent
It was more sophisticated than we had imagined: new documents show that the violent crackdown on Occupy last fall – so mystifying at the time – was not just coordinated at the level of the FBI, the Department of Homeland Security, and local police. The crackdown, which involved, as you may recall, violent arrests, group disruption, canister missiles to the skulls of protesters, people held in handcuffs so tight they were injured, people held in bondage till they were forced to wet or soil themselves –was coordinated with the big banks themselves.
Now I'm going to sit back and wait for the usual suspects on here to tell us why the authorities were entirely justified in working with the banks to repress legitimate and peaceful protest at the corporate looting and illegal banking practices that have been going on.........

Clearly the Occupy movement is a threat to the world order, demanding that we live in harmony with Nature and at peace with each other. Such dangerous philosophies need to be stamped out by all available means or the way of life of the 1% will be at risk.

I've been rumbled!

As a corporation owner I had no idea I was conspiring with the Gov' to bring down the occupy movement.

Ah well, you learn something everyday.

Ignoring the hype and crazy conspiracy theories,
A spokeswoman for the Department of Energy and Climate Change said: "Secondees bring with them knowledge and expertise which are vital to helping Decc do its job effectively. Likewise, seconding Decc staff into industry – be that oil, gas, renewables or other areas – provides insight into the challenges faced by those sectors. It is normal for secondees to be paid directly by Decc or for their company to be refunded for their time; this is standard practice across government."
Sounds like a perfectly normal activity - who else do you think are the experts on power station pollution other than the engineers who run it?

Naomi sensationalist reporting can hardly disguise the fact that this is a non-story.

The FBI are being accused of collecting intelligence against a group known to want to stage illegal occupy events. The banks are being accused of similarly collecting intelligence and sharing it with the FBI.

If this was the CIA then it would be a story but this is the FBI's job.

Wow, I love the way writing about occupy stirs up all the trolls. They really DID have an effect.

I have got far too many important things to do to go hunting for the pix, but suffice to say, halfbreed et al there are scary images all over the net of peaceful occupy protesters sitting down being pepper sprayed in the face etc etc.

Life's too short.

Stupid non arguments/straw man arguments from the usual trolly troll trolls.

As usual the good people leave the forums- so well done the trolls and shills have won again.

<insert Jarvis song here>

I'll take that to indicate you have realised your confusion and are sorry to have bothered us.

No one is denying instances of police brutality but you seem to be denying that some members of the Occupy movement were planning criminal acts that make them justified targets for the FBI.

It's all about proportion - extremist hype generally dissuades normal people from believing any of it. People will accept that certain individuals or small groups of, say, the NYPD might be corrupt or violent but they will not accept that the whole department is in league with mythical 'banksters'.

Engineers whose salaries depend on believing that power stations don't pollute are certainly not the sort of experts to rely on.

Never met an engineer who works on belief. Unlike protesters who all seem to operate on 'feelings'.

If you have an example or an accusation please make it public.

Pretty much all of them. I got a degree in geology and realised that it was pretty much impossible to work in the obvious industries without causing pollution. So I didn't.

Pretty all of them what?

Did you not think that you could have used that grant maintained free education to reduce the pollution generated in the obvious industries?
