Thank you Me Lordship,
I have had a cup of tea and I feel much better, but seriously do you not find all the 'almost admissions' frustrating. On one hand the IEA and Mr Birol tell us:
The International Energy Agency has conceded that global crude oil production has already peaked and that the commodity will become more and more expensive.
In the Catalyst program broadcast last month on Australia’s ABC1 television, the agency’s chief economist, Fatih Birol, said “peak oil” was reached in 2006.
He said that he expected oil prices to rise by 30 per cent over the next three years.
“The existing [oil] fields are declining so sharply that in order to stay where we are in terms of production levels in the next 25 years, we have to find and develop four new Saudi Arabias,” Dr Birol said.
“It is a huge, huge challenge that we continue to underlinee.”
So with Spock type logic I would conclude that he would fully endorse and champion a change of direction, perhaps away from the mantra of BAU,
But no, oh no no, then he says:
The International Energy Agency (IEA) has urged oil producing countries to increase supply to avoid "derailing the economic recovery".
Is not economic recovery another term for return to economic growth, and is not continued economic growth the root of the problem, its like he is saying give the child who fell off the bike a sweet and it wont feel the graze, this works with children, but dose it work with society?!
Sorry but it gets my dander up. The denial needs to start to be removed, they need to make there minds up and calmly start telling the population the truth, how else can informed debate evolve, how else can meaningful changes and action be started. With this sort of contradiction from an agency charged to monitor world energy and advice on mitigation should there be a problem on the horizon its confusing, good job we dont have the same issues with high finance and banks, few..oh hang on!
By the by Me Lordship, is that Avita you, if not who is it? (excuse my ignorance)
