Tony Blairs awarded Medal of freedom
Bush: Blair 'Devoted To Dignity'
In a fulsome tribute, the US President said the ex-Prime Minister had "met historic challenges with great tenacity and provided a lasting example of statesmanship at home and abroad".

If there's one time in recent history when I feel I was duped it was Blair & Iraq.

When he said they had intelligence of weapons, I assumed the intelligence was solid and that they couldn't say too much for fear of burning their sources. Dare I say it, I believed Blair. Robin Cook, Claire Short and George Galaway were not people I related to/nor trusted, apeasers/cowards. Smiley Tony seemed honest and genuine. I feel sad that I fell for the crap they peddled.

Europe could have become the world leader that George Bush clearly wasn't. Tony Blair siding with George W Bush will become one of the great historical mistakes, taught in political studies for years to come. George W Bush's problem is You Tube and all those great Bushisms

The day that the troops leave there must be an inquiry. And charges brought if appropriate.

If the renewables industry had half what the UK has spent on a Iraq,we'd have millions employed and we wouldn't care less whats happened to the price of oil.

Whilst we worry about the current bail outs- the Iraq war is nothing but an abhorant waste of money and lives.

It's very confusing that the same word is used for "knowledge of what your enemy is up to" and "a persons level of mental capability". The people that claim to have the first meaning of intelligence seem to be sadly lacking in the second meaning.

What happened to the efforts to get Bliar indicted for war crimes?

Wrong title TB. Should've been: "Prepare to be completely unsurprised"

I notice that Tony Blair is once again a favourite to be President of the EU.

For once I agree with you. I am reading 'The shock doctrine' at the moment, which is filling in a few gaps in my historical knowledge.

The Iraq invasion went largely to plan, and it was only the inevitability of imperial overreach which has led to the failure to set up a stable client state, like most of south and central America in the 70s and 80s.

Given the recent US/UK history of successful regime change in the service of Wall Street, they did everything by the book in Iraq.

Of course they are (war) criminals. They are deeply evil, but their failure was beyond their control.

What’s wrong with Tony Blair ?

He has brought peace and stability to the Middle East whilst he has been special envoy.

There is just no pleasing some people.

No, you can't blame Blair, it's the system, if he hadn't done it someone else would have etc etc etc.

No, I'm pulling Biff's leg...he thinks Gordon Brown isn't responsible for the economic equivalent of Tony Blair's war. As many lives will be ruined off the back of what Gordon's done.

I can see the system is wrong and they didn't design it but they are there making decisions within its framework. They could make very different choices to the ones they have (as many other countries have).

I hope one day they both end up in court although I suspect there aren't many lawyers that could run rings around Blair. At least he has talent, not quite sure what Brown has.

If, as seems likely, Brown OKs runway 3 , then he is not just incompetent, he is deluded, and needs to be removed from power ASAP.

Not that we managed to get TB out....
