I've recently been involved in a discussion about Trident and the future of nuclear weapons. It seems to me as if they are a pointless, out of date status symbol. I'm very much hoping the UK will choose not to replace the Vanguard sub and therefore become nuclear weapon free country within 20 years.

I can't imagine a scenario where they would be advantageous.

The web hosting company I use, Krystal Hosting, is based in an ex-MOD nuclear-proof communications bunker:

To give leaders of once-influential countries the impression that those countries are still of some importance?

They probably prevented Russia from being taken apart by the West after the USSR collapsed.

My house is on wheels. I can run away, or drive towards the epicentre if I want to get it over with quickly :)

And it always helps to paint your windows white to deflect the blast and hide under a mattress . . . and binbags are great for burying people who die in your fallout shelter!
