Trouble is MB, there are quite a few people who automatically equate having a limit on migrants into the country as racist. You can see examples of this on this very forum.mr brightside wrote:Anyone see the Look North report from Bradford this evening? It was on the Syria bombing issue and one banner in the chanting crowd of protesters caught my eye (it's not up on iplayer yet). It read something like: End the racism. Bradford welcomes refugees. This for me typifies the mentality of people who think it's a good idea to welcome any refugees who want to come to the UK. They seem unable to get a grasp of the concept that rejecting large numbers of refugees is not a move grounded in racism. We're looking at people who, with the best intentions, will unwittingly strive to bring the western world to its knees through overpopulation and civil unrest. I think as this situation progresses that some of our own citizens may pose as much of a threat as extremists.

I'm Brightside for other reasons. I'm actually often quite a pessimist, especially at consumermas, and i don't live in Sheffield either.vtsnowedin wrote:Oh!emordnilap wrote:Brightside is an area of Sheffield in Yorkshire which is anything but bright.vtsnowedin wrote: And you call yourself "Mr. Brightside?

Stand up to Racism. Bradford welcomes refugees.
Misinformation like this should really be censored by the BBC, but then again this is the BBC.

Do what japan does don't let them in .
There was recently a big stink in the uk when the sun ran a headline that said 1 in five uk muslims have sympathy for isis
The question they asked was too broad, but how many do support islamic terrorism, pew did a survey in 2007 that said 12% supported suicide bombing of civilians sometimes to " defend islam 3 % supported it often .
You just have to look at the numbers of brits fighting with groups like isis and look at the population numbers of muslims in the uk .
Then compare it with all the brits or english speakers who fought in the international brigades, and the population they came from. and fighting jihad is far more popular by orders of magnitude .

That's because it was statistically bollocks. It was a lie. The actual research was that 1 in 5 UK muslims had considered going to fight in Syria/Iraq. What it didn't ask was WHICH SIDE they were considering going to fight for. Some UK people have gone out to fight AGAINST ISIS. Is that "having sympathy" for them? No, and that's why there was a stink. If The Sun is going to run headlines like that, it has to make sure they are accurate.jonny2mad wrote:

it was too broad a question, but what I am saying is what percentage do actually support people like isis in 2007 you had 12% thinking suicide bombing civilians for the sake of islam was ok 3% think its often ok
Heres some more poll results they are worth looking at and actually make you wonder how many people in the sun poll were actually thinking about isis
its worth looking at these results http://www.thereligionofpeace.com/pages ... -polls.htm
We have 2,706,066 muslims 3% the number of people who think suicide bombing is often justified is 81,181 people and the muslim population doubles every 10 years in the uk . 12 % is 324,727 the people who sometimes think suicide bombing civilians is ok to defend islam. I dont want to live in the same country as those people, maybe you and biff certainly does, see how well that works out for you .
But at some stage people are going to wake up to this and there's going to be trouble,
Broadly the sun was in the right direction . that 81,181 will be 160,000 plus in 10 years while the silly greens are having no kids for the planet their having kids to spread islam so I would imagine their population will be actually higher than that as fundis have more children .

"Broadly in the right direction" isn't good enough for a statistical headline in a national newspaper.jonny2mad wrote:

The problem, Jonny, is that it is hard to say how much of the "stink" in question was the result of people being justifiably upset because the headline was innacurate and misleading, and how much was because they were upset about the the broad direction it was heading in.
It would have been much more effective, as a headline and a story, had it got its facts straight.
I think you don't need to look at one study but multiple studys and also numbers of people leaving the uk and fighting for groups like isis .
And contrast that with other popular causes, for example the best two would be people willing to fight fascism in spain, and people willing to fight on the side of fascism in world war two .
By far the most popular is people fighting jihad, hardly anyone on the far right fought on the side of the nazis and a smaller number when you consider the population fought the nazis in spain http://www.cbsnews.com/news/many-britis ... lam-first/
http://www.thereligionofpeace.com/pages ... -polls.htm run through this I posted it earlier but its important .
My guess looking at all those polls is the sun was broadly right or very close to being right, although the wording of that poll was too broad
