I'm also quite surprised at how cult books like LTG are in our society; someone recently recommended 'The Unabomber Manifesto', is it any good?
I have not read all of it, but the bits I am familiar with are certainly worth reading. Ted Kazynski was way ahead of his time.

Perhaps regarding the boat arrivals, they should be placed in a secure compound and told that, due to food shortages in the UK, they will need to supply themselves with food from their own resources. Might make them think about their actions.

They need signs up at Calais warning them that they might not be able to obtain food in the UK due to food shortages so that they are discouraged to come here in the first place. The problem is that they are getting here and we can't then get rid of them and there are plenty of do gooders who would give them a share of their own food and then complain of shortages.

What that would do to supermarket stocks I don't know although it would probably lead to instant shortages of essentials like beer, burgers and crisps!
