And there must have been other hostages present, or this story would not have got out. Instead we would be being told that Hamas killed them.

I would expect that Hamas use a lot of white flags. It's the way they operate.

So, Israel is now "hinting at stepping up its campaign, forcing even more civilians from their homes", reports the BBC. At the same time it reports that a quarter of the population is already facing extreme starvation. That is roughly 500,000 people, being intentionally starved to death.

Israel is now openly committing genocide, potentially on the same scale as the holocaust itself. They are not going to stop. Western leaders need to call this genocide, and the leaders of the Israeli government need to be threatened with prosecution for war crimes if they do not end the genocide. They will not stop until that threat is made, and may not stop even then.

From the politicians maybe but not necessarily the public.

I kind of think that on one side the people who literally danced in the streets at the news of Sept 11 aren’t worthy of my sympathy and on the other side the people who displace people from their homes and kidnap and killed British soldiers during the mandate are also not worthy of sympathy. I hope that this Christmas that they get what they deserve. All of them.

Indeed, among the under 50s population, or basically anyone not getting the news from the TV, support for Israel is weak and getting weaker by the day.

It's difficult to know how else Israel could have respond but they probably should not have let the October 7th events happen in the first place.

George Galloway speaks the truth about Israel:

I'd vote for him if I lived in Rochdale.

I am not sure I would vote for him. I don't think he has even come clean on whether he is a Muslim or not. SO maybe he is himself in thrall to a holy city about 2500 miles away from the UK that he prays to five times a day and who's holy book he takes his instructions from.

Two sides of the same Semitic coin unfortunately.

Galloway strikes me as a bit of chancer. He's just trying to pull in the Islamic vote.

I was in London yesterday to meet up with some friends. I saw some of the latest march and I can imagine that this was what it was like with the Brownshirts running around in 1930s Germany, and we all know how that turned out....

I don't know if he is a chancer as I didn't live in any of his constituencies. I think he was pretty bad to Oona King but Oona King did put herself in the firing line by, as a Jew, standing for Labour in Bethnal Green, which is famous for its Bangladeshi Muslim population, being under the delusion that there were still lots of radical Jews living there like in the 1930s. Used to pass through the place a lot when living in East London and Essex and was glad I was either 15 metres above or below street level and not at street level.

What Galloway is is a very eloquent politician who likes the trappings of power, however marginal the actual power may be. It's a foretaste of the future and it doesn't look pretty.

Israel Gaza: Large number of gunshot wounds among those injured in aid convoy rush - UN
Right. So it appears that what has happened is that the people in northern Gaza, who Israel has been deliberately starving for weeks, rushed to an aid convoy, only for the IDF to fire directly at them. They then tried to claim that the deaths were the result of stampeding and road accidents.

This is genocide, without any grey area to hide it. Israel is openly slaughtering as many Gazan civilians as it can get away with, and the actions of the mainstream British political establishment is indirectly but undeniably enabling Israel to continue doing so. Why shouldn't they just push things even further, given that no western government is apparently willing to call it genocide?

The moral foundations of western liberal democracy are disintegrating before our eyes.

And the US is now air-dropping food into Gaza -- something only required because Israel is deliberately not allowing enough food to enter by land.

This is genocide. Why are so few people willing to say it?

There are plenty of prominent thinkers saying it. They just aren't being given any airtime in the media in this free and fair democratic society of ours where all voices are given equal opportunity to be heard.
