Fiat currencies have some value by being legal tender within a jurisdiction. Otherwise they might as well be tulip bulbs.

Secondly remote voting is very vulnerable to election fraud simply because the secret ballot disappears. It does not matter what cryptographic systems you use because that is irrelevant.

I think you are probably right. It is the sort of thing that people jump in on in the hope of offloading it just before the peak.

However, it doesn't even have the value of being legal tender anywhere.

I am not at all sure that trying to prosecute Puigedemont and 13 other Catalan nationalist leaders for "sedition" and "rebellion" is going to prove a wise long-term move. What is he going to do? Go back to face the charges, and make himself into a political prisoner and effective martyr for the separatist cause? Can't see that playing into Madrid's hands very well. Or stay in Belgium and claim asylum? A citizen of an EU country claiming asylum in another EU country?? What precedent does that set?

This isn't over.

I think it would need an EAW rather than just an Arrest Warrant, but if he wants protection from the Spanish authorities he would probably have to go to Russia.

There is in fact a rule which makes it nigh on impossibly to get Asylum in one EEA country against other EEA countries. I helped some UK citizens try to get Asylum unsuccessfully in the RoI against the UK (Childrens issues, baby stealing that sort of thing).

On the same point, however, a mother from the USA was given Asylum in the Netherlands.

Actually you might have some mathematically curious prime numbers, but I have not studied bitcoin.

I rather doubt that this will end peacefully.

Looks like a very bad move, strategically, by the Spanish government. Doesn't make much difference whether Puigdemont ends up in exile or in prison, either way he becomes a symbol of anti-democratic oppression of Catalonia by Madrid.

It is very difficult to see how this can be resolved any other way than by holding another referendum, this time legitimised by the Spanish government.

Foolish of the Spanish government. The harder they respond the more there will be Catalan support for independence.
