The Irish could always work with us on it. Herd them up and let us know when they are ready for a flight.

It depends what is written in the Common Travel Area legislation. Whether it allows free travel of non-Irish and non-British citizens as well. Does it have an asylum clause?

I don't know. They aren't asylum seekers anyway, they're economic migrants using the asylum system to get citizenship.

I agree entirely. You might call the asylum and refugee system the worldwide Middle-class Muslim migration visa.

It's about time the governments around the world put an end to it once and for all.

You can't even talk about it without being called racist or right wing. I think the thing that sticks out the most for me is that an illegal immigrant fished out of the channel has more rights to a roof over his head than a homeless guy who was born here.

There was an item on BBC news a couple of nights back when a bus was sent to collect some illegals for relocation to the Maersk barge. Some local weed smoking hippies let the tyres down and staged a sit-down protest, so the bus left with nobody on board. The protesters were going on about how unfair it is on the illegals, they don't seem to be able to see the bigger picture.

There was an interview with a certain Mahmoud, currently in a tent in Dublin, who left his home in Amman due to the politically dangerous activity of cheating on his wife. He left the country after his in-laws tried to end his life for bringing their family name into disrepute. If adultery constitutes a political activity then the whole asylum process needs to be disbanded.

I doubt it would stop the numbers coming though even if you ended asylum. Even India has a migration problem with people coming from Bangladesh. Stopping illegal migration is all about carrots and sticks and the correct balance between the two.

Let's not bash weed smoking at all. A bit of self medication is helpful these days.

Should have been legalised long ago. Easy way to redirect large amount of money from organised crime to the treasury with no significant downside.

Of course. But tell that to the Mail etc., who actually control the conversation on this sort of thing. A whole different thread, but not worth starting :-)

Isn't it? Isn't a conversation about who controls the conversation, and how they do it, exactly what is needed?

Mental Health crisis anyone? Paranoid schizophrenics killing people on the street.

There are always downsides.'

From a country where there are relatively few street attacks by paranoid schizophrenics.
Cannabis is currently illegal in Singapore for recreational purposes. Possession or consumption can result in a maximum of 10 years in prison, with a possible fine of $20,000, as well as caning, under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

Observation that the nutters at University seemed to take it. And some research evidence that many killers seemed to take it too.

Ha ha another totally de-railed thread :-)
Been smoking the noxious physco killer weed on and off for almost 50 years now. So far no paranoid episodes, haven't raped any farm animals and generally function completely normally. Stopped drinking along time ago mind you, there's a killer for you. Still waiting for gates to open.
However, this was recently brought to my attention by an alcoholic chum who thought I should be made aware of the dangers of my crazy 'addiction'. Sadly he died of liver failure last week.
