The Palestinians cannot accept their current situation as a permanently occupied not-state.
.. but they are NOT under occupation.
They are not a state, either.
Depends who you ask, most states, representing most people accept it is a state. "The State of Palestine has been recognized by 139 of the 193 UN members and since 2012 has had a status of a non-member observer state in the United Nations." Gaza Strip forms part of the state.

That is an aspiration rather than a reality. Palestine does not have sovereignty over its own borders. It is not allowed self-defence. It is not allowed to defend itself from Israeli encroachment. Therefore it is not a state.

It is not allowed to defend itself from Israeli encroachment
It is blockaded by both Israel and Egypt ... because they export violence.

They are entirely justified in "exporting violence". If I was Palestinian, I would be doing exactly the same thing. And so would you.

So what justifies killing 250 teenagers at a dance event?

Countless decades of intolerable Israeli oppression.

Israel has reduced the Palestinians to a sub-human condition. They are responding in kind.

Decades of theft of rebuilding funds by Arafat and his successors has reduced the Palestinians to a sub-human condition

Seriously? I had you down as a little more intelligent than this comment suggests.

However despite receiving around $1.5 billion every year for decades there had been little to show for that money.

For example, the infrastructure there has not improved materially over the years.

Suspicions of mismanagement and theft concerning donations have swirled around for many, many years.
No. There is no point in the Palestinians accepting the current political situation. Palestine is a non-state. They have only one option and that is to fight to the death.

They choose not to be in 1948. One of those mistakes that has REAL consequences.

UndercoverElephant wrote: 09 Oct 2023, 11:09 OK...so Israel has announced a complete blockade on Gaza. No food, water or medicines for 2 million people. That is straightforward genocide, and it will surely lead to wider conflict between the west and the Islamic world.
I would expect that Israel would relax the blockade if Hamas
1) cease firing rockets and other weapons into Israel.
2) Release all hostages, promptly and unharmed.
3) Withdraw all Hamas and allied fighters from Israeli territory.

If Hamas decline, than the blockade could become long term, and Gaza become depopulated, which would please Israel.

"Most" people don't matter. Like the US gives a tinkers damn what other countries think of our decision to arm the citizenry. In 1948 one side made a choice to shoot it out, and the other chose what was offered. So Palestinians and their enablers decided to exterminate the Jews...again...and the Jews objected vigorously. And now, all these years later.....it only matters what the Israeli's think as they are the only ones with skin in the game.

Good enough for the oppressors of Northern Ireland, the Americans and the American Indian tribes, the Maori, monkey see monkey do. But the Palestinians....they are going to regret 1948 forever, the 1972 Olympics, and no American except bleeding hearts are going to care after what happened in 1990 with Arafat and the PLO supporting Saddam.

I've got to agree with this one. America was founded under the same circumstances...the key to throwing off one's oppressors is having what it takes to "get'er done". When as a displaced people your entire history begins with "kill them all or push them into the sea!" and fails multiple times along the way, you've just got to understand that you are completely lacking in "get'r done".

Not really an option. If they just want to die pretending to fight. that would be easy enough for Israel. But they'd get a bunch of bad press, so they probably won't. But they could all be starved out, won't involve much fighting, just mostly....starvation.
