We could reduce our overall gas consumption by about 30% by insulating our houses properly to save 80 to 90% of the gas that they use at present. I've been plugging this with my MP for quite a few years but it falls on deaf ears because I suspect that government aren't willing to do anything that will drop GDP. The GROWTH must be maintained and a 30% drop in gas use would hit that quite badly. And my MP says he is onside with climate change!
