What about doctors, nurses etc, not necessarily applying much brute force, so not a very high wattage on average, but fairly important, no?

I think there is nothing wrong pe se with fiat currency, if the creation of money is controlled properly. Perhaps by a centrally elected body, independent of the government?
I can however see sense in creating a global trade currency linked to carbon usage. The benefit would largely be to the worlds poor though, and at our expense. But you know, we all have to make a choice don't we? Fairness and justice on a global scale, or simply look after you and yours. i.e. a) A fair global trade currency, or b) Maintain western reserve currencies by threat, force, diplomacy and treaty.
We can't have it all ways can we?
