That speach was too good!!! Not like W at all. Looking straight into the camera, no hesitation, no fluffed words or bushisms, or searching looks.

I recon he's been practicing that one for months.

It was rehearsed - maybe recorded ... one radio station accidentally transmitted the rehearsal ...

Despite that, it was an impressive speech:

Following the news from the USA today it's hard to know whether the financial system or the political system will dissolve into chaos first.

The bit we've yet to hear out of Washington - at least that I've yet to hear -
is that wonderful line used by Chamberlain (re Nazi invasion of Poland),
by Sir John Nott (re Argentine invasion of Falklands)
& by Sir John Gummer (re unequivocal evidence of extreme damage to Ozone layer).

The line to listen for was in each case and is, precisely,

"Nobody could have foreseen . . . . ."

It appears to be used as self-exculpatory establishment code for a discredited official to acknowledge that :

"We have a problem that can no longer be ignored that makes nonsense of all previous expectations . . . . "

Once Washington has decided just who the speaker is going to be
then we can be fairly sure that they've started to take the 'problematique' seriously.

Evidence of prior Nazi aggression was of course widespread,
but in terms of key warnings by those who went on record as foreseeing our present predicament, I'd suggest these :

Aarhenius in 1896 for Global Warming,
Hubbert (of course) in 1956 for PO,
and some of the well-buried opposition to the Bretton Woods deal,
whereby the enthronement of the petrodollar gave the US unprecedented financial hegemony,
. . . . . . in which confidence is now fragmenting.

If you can trace any of that opposition (either in broadsheets or official docs. released via 30-year rule ???) it might be well worth disseminating.
