We'll have to dust off a few of these:

Just think how much safer and efficient sailing would be with modern weather forecasting and GPS navigation. Add in a axillary engine for calms and emergencies and you could get along quite nicely.

Ayup, but I think they are a bit ahead of the times. Funny I have driven beside the Champlain and the Erie canals several times in recent years and never seen a barge or private boat under way.I wasn't even suret they still operated the locks for boaters but apparently $100 buys you a permit for the whole year for a boat up to the size of the locks. 44wx256 long.
Most of the Erie is a boring ditch but it does go through a couple of good sized lakes. The long trip would be from Burlington Vt to Albany NY in the Champlain then to Buffalo NY via the Erie then get into the St. Lawrence seaway (different permits and fees) and go to Chicago Ill. or Duluth Minn.

We could dump grain fed beef for a start. What next?
Sugar, Palm Oil, Soya
It would not be difficult to improve the nutritional value of the UK diet.
Speaking of palm oil (only just over a year ago  ) here's a good guide to help you avoid it.
Avoid the following as they have received a worst rating:
ASDA
Morrisons
Tesco
Aldi
Lidl
Iceland

Well, there's a place near us called Ballone Castle, on a cliff right on the Moray Firth. It has a walled garden with a south-facing glasshouse and a very nice productive grapevine in it.

So there! :D

Besides, who says mince pies have to have mincemeat in them? Could use haggis. Mixed with jam for sweetening..

Yes. I had the other haggis once, prior to seeing the light. Diabolical. The one above is by far and away superior, manna to broken glass.
