We are saved!!! We've found another earth like planet and it's only 1400 light years away. The planet is bigger than earth and about a billion years older. At our rate of technological progress we could be there in 1400 light years!! On the other hand, being that much older, they've probably burnt all their fossil fuels by now so not much reason to go there.

Oh! well. Let's keep on looking then.

AFAIAA, a light year is a measure of distance, not time. Just saying', like.

I think what you mean is, "We could be there in 1,400 years, if we could travel at the speed of light."

If you could accelerate a space ship at the rate of 1G (earth's gravity)
it would take one year to reach the speed of light, and one year to slow down again. That would add less than 2 years to the journey time, and would
provide gravity for the first and last year of the journey, and due to relativistic effects, you would not have aged very much.
