This is a shock to say the least.
It had been on his mind for some time. These emails are from those folks who were around when he fled the country, prior to being named a possible suspect in a burglary of his own offices…One of Mikes Girlfriends wrote:
This in turn may lead us to recognize how the whole concept of "hero" is a dangerous drug, not only for the "Leader" who becomes infused with his own importance and deaf to the insights of others but also for his followers, who sell their birthright of independence of thought.
In fact, no one was better acquainted with his "lunacy" than his inner circle. We got the hard-to-deal-with side of his personality in our face as long as he stayed close. I believe this is one reason he moved so often, living with no one person for much longer than a year, a trait he and I shared, by the way.

The timing was coincidental of course.
In memory of Mike, the guy whom Lindsay Gerken wishes she had never met…

...Every day I long for death because I just don´t see how this current limbo is ever going to end. I just keep waking up and going through motions. I wrote a new article today and start another tomorrow. I do miss the US and especially my loved ones but I know I can´t ever go home. That would betray my moral decision and put my life at greater risk than I feel it is here.
I may wind up being the writer that no country wants. Then what?
Sigh. I´ve been doing the anger thing, especially at those close to me who betrayed me so deeply. That´s what´s really taken the heart out of me...

I am ready to die and the only thing I want to know is that I am totally clean with all the people who are FTW.
I saw a great documentary on Socrates last night. They made him drink hemlock because he kept throwing peoplés [sic] bullshit and sloppy thinking in their faces.
Sounds a little familiar. I am not trying to torment or worry any of those who love me and care for me. I am hanging by a thread here. best, Mike

Mike had lost the plot a long time ago and his death should serve as a warning to many of the obsessive members of this forum.
Take time out for a beer from time to time guys. Plenty of time for navel gazing, nail biting and bed wetting in later life. Start enjoying yourselves.

Have you ever read Ender's Game? Or another Orson Scott Card novel titled "Speaker for the Dead"?RenewableCandy wrote:Human beings do not badmouth the dead. Just saying, like.
There is an idea in this world that an objective examination of ones life is a far better and more meaningful conversation than platitudes and lies to try and alleviate the emotion of ones passing. In all lives there is a lesson, and perhaps only after it ends for any one of us can those who know and love us learn from it.
Perhaps Mike's purpose in life was to provide just such an example as to what happens when one dwells on the end for so long that when it doesn't arrive, it becomes necessary to create it, if only for oneself.
None of us gets out of here alive. In the meantime, there is much to see and do and experience, loves to be had, disappointments to suffer through, setbacks and advances and joy and learning.Shortfall wrote:Rubbish! One of the fundamental freedoms of being human is making the choice that today is the day when I choose to get off the merry-go-round and find out what exists, if anything, on the other side.
We should all give Mike the respect for having made his choice. And should never forget him as an example of what might happen to those who make just such a choice, perhaps in part because they can't live up to their own press? And the more obvious it becomes to the rest of the world, just imagine how much worse it is for the person who themselves recognize it, and can do nothing to change it.

What are you talking about? Mike died, noticing is not an ad hom. He died for various reasons, some of which are talked about quite openly among his friends and once upon a time compatriots. Referencing their opinion is not an ad hom.peaceful_life wrote: Ad hominem and lacks creativity in the face of the meta realities.
You don't get to change the facts of the matter by claiming they are an ad hom. His decades of AA followed by his admittedly starting to drink again (referenced on the same blog other information has come from) is not in question, and noting the consequences of ones behavior is not an ad hom either.

Jenna appears to be coming closer to telling it like it is than anyone else has.
