Indeed! The anti BAU and anti cuts at the same time thing is a rather interesting feature of today's political scene.

In as much as the 'cuts' are seen as the Tories doing what Tories want to do - reduce the proportion of the economy that is within the state sector, those who would see us move in a Scandinavian rather than American direction, with a higher proportion of GDP in the public sector can logical campaign against the Tory cuts. They see the government being opportunistic, pushing a political agenda on the back of the so-called financial crisis.

Those of us who recognise that economic growth is at approximately its end and the days of the global market economy and financial system are numbered, can welcome the cuts as necessary but only when implemented alongside transfers payments sufficient to ensure a more equal distribution of what wealth there is left. There is no sign at all that the Tories intend to move in this direction.

We're in a global system that won't allow that. And I think it's because the people with the money know that the system won't last much longer so they've engineered it so that they can grab as much as possible before it goes phut, hastening the end in the process. Money won't do them much good in the future but if they hold, and can control, resources that could help them. That depends on whether or not they can feed, arm and control a private army.
