I've apologised to my friends...

Post by newmac »

In an update email yesterday to people I've ranted about PO (some are interested, some are work in progress :P ) I apologised to them.

The reason I apologised was that for those that ignore PO, unlike the vast majority of the population, a little while down the line they won't be able to use the excuse "Nobody told me before it was too late".

I didn't go as far as comparing them to historical precedents where populations didn't act when they should have, hopefully they could work that bit out themselves. And realise that they will be more guilty than those who were naive.

The end result is that I actually had more responses to this email than to any I have sent out before. Perhaps I'll experiment with this line a bit more.

always good to reply to your own posts :)

One of my friends has posted my email update on his non-PO forum (I think it is an extreme sports one) and it has since generated over 4 pages of discussion (some good some bad) - any discussion is good mind.

I keep feeding him info to add.

Just shows how targetting non-PO sites such as we did with the fuel protests can get the discussion going with people who haven't found their way to Powerswitch and the like.

Anyone else had similar experiences or can think of other avenues to get the talk going?

NewMac - did you post the test of your 'sorry' e-mail or is there a link to it?

Did you mention what actions you - and other Peakniks - are taking in the e-mail?

I've since been sending out weekly emails as a bit of a hobby. I've worked on the format to keep them as brief and interesting as possible

These usually have one part giving some info about a non-conventional oil resources - i.e. one week hydrogen, one week tar sands, one week nuclear.

There is another section with a bit of trivia to keep some people interested.

Uausall a news section e.g. potential UK gas shortages, hurricanes.

Also links to concise info, leaflets that they may want to read, distribute.

Now that I've generated a bit of interest I'm going to start feeding in things people can do - this week with links and text, I plan to make it very easy for people to contact their MP about signing the EDM.

Obviously, there is always a link to Powerswitch :D
