Hydrogen 11 times worse than CO2 for climate, says new report

Is the proposed 'Hydrogen Economy' going to save the human race or is it all an energy sink that provides no viable answer?

Hydrogen 11 times worse than CO2 for climate, says new report

Post by BritDownUnder »

Interesting theory that hydrogen escaping into the atmosphere from pipes and other forms of transportation and storage and, due to its extreme cold storage requirements, venting from storage will have an effect on global warming.
The theory is that hydrogen, while not a warming gas by itself as it is diatomic not triatomic or larger, interferes with the atmospheric destruction of methane which is a warming gas and hence makes methane more potent at warming as methane's lifetime in the atmosphere is extended.

That's interesting and another thing to add to the list of reasons for not going over to hydrogen for widespread use.

It's all the Law of Unintended Consequences.

Hydrogen may have a lot of niche uses but I do hope it does not get used on a large scale if the findings of the study are confirmed.
