Is the proposed 'Hydrogen Economy' going to save the human race or is it all an energy sink that provides no viable answer?

The Phoenix Project Foundation is a non-profit, scientific-educational organization that is focused on helping people to understand the implications of exponential growth; and how it relates the interrelated issues of energy, the economy, the environment, foreign policy, molecular biology and nanotechnology. Based on the book, The Phoenix Project:, written by Harry Braun, the Foundation seeks to make people aware that the most serious environmental problems are related to our use of fossil and nuclear fuels, and given the exponential nature of these problems, we are all like passengers on the Titanic it is imperative that the U.S. and other countries to shift to a ?solar? hydrogen economy by the year 2010.

This ?transition of substance? can be accomplished by mass-producing wind and other solar-powered ocean thermal hydrogen production systems that are no more difficult to build than automobiles and oil tankers. The estimated $3 trillion capital investment would generate about $1 trillion annually in energy sales, with equipment that will last for centuries and a fuel that is both pollution-free and inexhaustible.

Rather than waiting for fuel cells or a new generation of hybrid vehicles, the Phoenix Project calls for simply modifying every existing vehicle to use hydrogen, the only ?universal fuel? that can also be used for power plants, ships, trains, and aircraft, or a Coleman stove on a mountain top. Only liquid hydrogen provides full-rated power from internal combustion engines; is safer than gasoline in the event of spills and accidents; and has a storage system that most closely resembles gasoline in terms of a vehicle?s weight and range.
