Moneyweek coming out for shale gas
In this article Moneyweek is advising everyone to get on the Shale Gas bandwagon.
They are a bit late aren't they? US investors are seeing problems with shale gas only companies and majors like Shell jumped ship a while ago. The only shale gas sold at a profit in the US is that which comes out of the ground with profit making shale oil. The amount of drilling for shale gas only wells has dropped markedly over the last year or so.
Shale gas is being hyped by the UK government as being a game changer which will drop the price of gas dramatically. Unfortunately for them and gas consumers shale gas is only viable at high gas prices. If the UK government live up to their promise and ensure the safe production of shale gas and ensure the gas companies do not socialise their waste treatment costs the costs will be even higher and the gas will be more expensive than other sources.
Not an investment that I would make!!

$4.85 at the median is high gas prices? What is it you pay in the UK for $4.85 to be a "high" price?kenneal - lagger wrote: Shale gas is being hyped by the UK government as being a game changer which will drop the price of gas dramatically. Certainly getting in late isn't always the best move. When Pioneer announced they were selling all their high cost international plays to use the new drilling technologies to focus on unconventionals in Texas, it smacked of confidence. I couldn't resist such confidence myself.kenneal wrote: Not an investment that I would make!!
Thank GOD for Art Berman trumpeting from the rooftops to NOT consider unconventional drilling in 2009, it probably helped keep the buy in low. So count me in as glad more people thought the way you do back then!!
I don't think I've ever read such an overhyped load of bullsh*t as that Moneyweek article. It's worse than some of those "kick sand in your face" chest-expander ads from the '60's.
The graph comparing CO2 emissions is laughable. Electricity is a delivery mechanism, not a primary energy source. So why include it in the graph?
Anyone who makes investment decisions based on such BS needs their head examining.

Quite possibly, as a feature of a ponzi scheme is that the early investors get paid from the revenue stream brought in by the late investors. The late investors lose when the scheme is exposed.RalphW wrote:SO you have a direct financial incentive in talking up shale oil and gas.
Good to have that on the record.
Have the shares been paying good dividends?

Pioneer does not specialize in shale oil and gas. They specialize in using the technology developed for shale oil and gas development and utilizing it elsewhere.RalphW wrote:SO you have a direct financial incentive in talking up shale oil and gas.

And most anyone with a invested pension fund, insurance annuity, holds stock in oil and gas companies. Entire countries own oil companies, and their citizens are no more guaranteed to like it than anti-frackers in England, but they rarely refuse the return on their investment on moral grounds.
Yes, DOW tracking funds have certainly proven to be a Ponzi scheme during the past...131....years.....one hell of a ponzi!!biffvernon wrote:Quite possibly, as a feature of a ponzi scheme is that the early investors get paid from the revenue stream brought in by the late investors.
