Interesting, I'm in the market for a ~10kWh, 48V DC battery. Currently looking at eight 6V 468Ah VRLA. Eight of these give a 50% discharge of just over 10kWh.

This is a most interesting development and shows IMO considerable promise.
Not yet suitable for domestic off grid use though for a number of reasons.
Firstly it consumes an average of 180 watts for auxiliary components, self testing and so on. An off grid home would need considerable extra PV capacity to supply this in mid winter.
Secondly, it performs a full discharge for test and maintenance purposes this wastes the energy used to charge the battery and also means that no electricity is available until it has charged which might take a day or more.
The availability of a mains supply seems to be presumed.
Finally it is in my opinion simply too complicated, much too reliant on sophisticated electronics that are not user repairable.
Certainly worth keeping an eye on this developing technology.
