Such schemes show much promise, and can produce a useful income if grid tied, or a useful electricity supply in remote areas lacking grid service.

The energy available is very small compared to total demand, but every little helps, and every KWH generated thus is a little less fossil fuel burned.

The problem is that most of these remote hillside streams don't have grid connections.

This was a story we got into the Guardian after giving TGV Hydro an Ashden Award. I did the judging visit to their sites in Wales, they are building really good systems there, and cheaper than they have been in the past. There's a short video and a case study I wrote here:
