Tree crops ??

How will oil depletion affect the way we live? What will the economic impact be? How will agriculture change? Will we thrive or merely survive?

Tree crops ??

Post by trimnut2 »

Looking at various sites concerning TSHTF I am puzzled that more efforts are not focused on tree crops.

Anyone wanting an introduction to this subject should read ""Tree Crops - A Permanent Agriculture by J Russell Smith.""

My puzzlement is that tree crops have so many advantages yet rarely am I seeing any constructive responses to tree crop's potential to enhance food security.

Does anyone know where any assembling, trialling and cultivar selection work for tree crops is happening? Is there an arboretum anywhere that has a "tree crops" objective?

(If this subject has already been discussed please feel free to redirect me thanks. A search and long brouse did not reveal it. TN2)

do a search for 'forest garden' and click the 'search for all items button' and click the tab for posts rather than topics and you will find a load of info.

Also on the web search for "agroforestry" and "martin crawford"

tomhitchman thanks for your reply.

I am aware of the sources of information that you suggest and have read a good deal of it. I have also kept good contact with agroforestry here in Australia. I have been growing tree crops for thirty years.

I still pose this question:
""Does anyone know where any assembling, trialling and cultivar selection work for tree crops is happening? Is there an arboretum anywhere that has a "tree crops" objective? ""

The reason I raise this is two fold. I cannot find anywhere that has set out to systematically trial as many tree crops as possible in one locality. I am putting together a proposal to do that trialing through the establishment of an Arboretum. So I am searching for any situations embarked on a similar project.
