'Communities could be a key factor in the fight against climate change and promotion of renewable energy, says a report from the Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR).
The IPPR’s report, Green Streets: Strong Communities, looked at British Gas’ ‘Green Streets’ community challenge, in which 14 local groups received funding and advice on installing energy efficiency and microgeneration measures in homes and community buildings.
Community action appears to elicit a ‘multiplier effect’, says the IPPR, in which interest in energy efficiency and microgeneration grows among individuals once technologies are installed on visible buildings'.
