I live off the interest on the money from the sale of my house. As long as house prices are falling I can buy a similar or better house for the same money when I want one, and effectively live for free until then. That's the theory anyway, but I suppose I could resort to Vortex's idea if it doesn't .

I thought of JohnB and others on the forum who are currently itinerant when I read that part of the Orlov book.

As you say Bandidoz, he doesn't recommend a completely itinerant future. And he emphasizes that you shouldn't present yourself as itinerant when interacting with the settled population, in case you are perceived as an "other".

If it was going to be BAU for the foreseeable future, I think I would keep travelling. There are things about a settled life that I miss though. It takes time to settle into the new way of life, and what I'm doing is gradually changing, and never has been as I expected.

Because it won't be BAU for much longer, I see this phase of my life as a short term thing, while I get my life sorted and find how and where I want to live to survive whatever comes next. Maybe the future will involve travel. If I can acquire a useful skill that I could travel round providing to different communities that might be great.

I want like minded neighbours, whether as part of a community, or by buying a bigger house than I need and having lodgers. I regularly joke that having lodgers or tenants means that they can pay for running my house, and look after my garden and chickens while I go travelling, but I'm partly serious!
