Life without technology

How will oil depletion affect the way we live? What will the economic impact be? How will agriculture change? Will we thrive or merely survive?

Even in England, the medieval period was characterised by a very large number of holidays. They did a bit of work between the parties.
We had 180 saints days per year which all had to be celebrated!! Apart for the very cold periods Britain has been a comparitaively pleasant place to live.

We've a couple of women from the USA staying with us. They've just gone outside to hang the washing out. They say nobody does that back home. We demonstrated the technology of the clothes peg, a piece of thin rope and a long pole with a fork at the end.

We've experienced this also. We had a family from Kentucky staying with us a while ago. They lived on a subdivision where strong "Homeowner Agreements" were prevalent; no leaving your car on the drive, no cutting the lawn if there's an "r" in the month, and definitely no hanging out of washing.

They told us a story of how they had some German guests staying with them. They decided to take a walk of a mile or so to the nearest shopping mall. On their way back through the estate (walking in the gutter as there was no "sidewalk"), a police car stopped and asked if they were OK and what they were doing there. After they explained, the officers suggested very strongly that they should give them a lift back to where they were staying. "It's for the best. We want to ensure your safety.", etc.

Hi everyone! I'm new here :)
I don't know if anyone knows it, but there's an american tv series called Revolution that is about living in the future without electricity. It shows how hard life would be without it. Probably it's a little exaggerated, but I think it gives an idea of how much we rely on electricity.
